Neko Atsume 2: Kitty Collector was announced on February 21, 2024 in the form of a news article on Hit-Point's official website. This article originally stated the game would be released in Summer 2024, but this was later updated to Fall 2024. An update was also provided on the status of Neko Atsume. The full statement reads:

- Certain Goodies may break after cats playing with them. Broken Goodies can be either fixed or discarded from the Goodies menu; fixing a Goody changes its appearance, while discarding it allows it to be re-bought from the shop with its original appearance. Some Goodies can be fixed for free, while others need fish or Gold Fish to be fixed. Fixing a Goody does not kick cats off of it.
- New Wallpapers, with two unlocked by default.
- The Camera feature now can take pictures in a vertical orientation of Cats for the Album.
- New zoom feature while viewing the Yard that can be turned off in Settings.
