Neko Atsume (ねこあつめ, lit. "Cat Collection") is a mobile phone game franchise by Japanese developer Hit-Point.

Games[]

Gameplay[]

The games provide the player with a small, customizable Yard, which can later be expanded with an indoor area, where the stray cats of the neighborhood come to visit. The player must lure the Cats to visit with Goodies and Food. The player must exit the game in order for the cats to appear in the Yard. A cat won't leave the Yard while the game is open. Upon leaving, Cats will leave the player a gift of Fish as currency for the player to spend. After befriending the cats, they will gift the player a unique Memento.

Cats[]

Across all of the games, there are currently 69 Cats: 45 Regular Cats and 24 Rare Cats. Each cat is unique with its own appearance, personality, and power level.[1]

Yard[]

The Yard is where Cats appear to interact with Goodies. Cats will only visit if Food is left out. Initially, the Yard includes one Food bowl and 5 spaces for players to place toys. This doubles with the purchase of the Expansion for 180 GoldFish, which will expand into the space adjacent to the Yard. The expanded yard can also be Remodeled into different styles.

Seasons[]

The weather in the Yard may sometimes be affected by the current season in Japan, where new objects are added to the Yard's background. There is no direct connection between in-game weather and real-life weather.[1] The Winter season was introduced in Patch 1.5.0, released December 18th, 2015. Winter occurs from December to March each year. On random days, the Yard becomes covered in snow for twenty-four hours at a time. The background music theme also changes into a Christmas-themed song. The Summer season was introduced in Patch 1.7.0, released July 14th, 2016. Summer occurs during July and August each year.

Fish[]

Fish (にぼし, lit. "small dried sardines") and Gold Fish (金にぼし) are the currency in Neko Atsume. Cats leave Fish behind after exiting the Yard. A button that says "Gifts Await" will appear at the bottom of the Yard. Fish are used to purchase Food, Goodies, Wallpapers, Remodels, and the Yard Expansion. The player can also exchange Fish for Gold Fish and vice versa.

In Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector, the player can purchase Gold Fish with real money.

Daily Password[]

The Daily Password allows the player to input one word each day that rewards the player with Fish. After every five Daily Passwords that are logged, the player receives a bonus gift of Ritzy Bitz or a Sashimi Boat. In the mobile games, the Password is displayed in the News tab on a wooden sign with a random Regular Cat underneath. In the VR games, the Password is located in the newspaper on the floor indoors which the player can then enter in the Connect tab.

The Daily Password is not present in Neko Atsume 3DS.

Advertising Cats[]

Ad Example

Snowball with an Ad.

Japanese Game Menu

Japanese ver.

In Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector and the App Pass version, a Cat may appear sitting on top of the right side of the Game Menu box, holding a brochure in its mouth. When clicked on, a third party advertisement will open. A Cat may also appear with its back turned, looking at a tablet screen, which instead leads to the official Hit-Point YouTube channel.[2]

In the Japanese version, a Cat may appear with a mobile phone. Instead of an advertisement, clicking on it will lead to a Neko Atsume comic in the Web Manga series.

Mii[]

For a brief time, the player could meet Mii, a cat from the film Teacher and Stray Cat, in place of the advertising cat.
